This past weekend, the folks at Double Fine Productions were kind enough to give me a tour of their San Francisco studio. Hard at work on several new projects (including the Kickstarted Double Fine Adventure), the entire team still took the time to make me feel welcome. If games creator Tim Schafer and his crew know how to do one thing exceptionally well, it is create fantastic worlds populated with engaging characters and awesome stories that show us the best (and funniest) games are often made by its truest fans. With Brütal Legend, the gang at Double Fine teams with musician and film star Jack Black for a follow up to 2005’s critically acclaimed Psychonauts. And while the title suffers from its controls and gameplay being a tad unpolished, gamers and heavy metal fans will find themselves too wrapped up in the world to care. (more…)

From Comic-Con Part 1 – EA Showcase

Pads & Panels 2009 Comic-Con coverage started at Twin/Onyx, a San Diego club, with the EA Showcase. We were greeted with G.I. Joe figures, food and drinks. Sarah didn’t have to walk far, immediately finding MySims Agents, a casual/children’s title she’s been anxiously awaiting to play. I immediately headed downstairs, where Brütal Legend, Dead Space: Extraction and Left 4 Dead 2 were all playable. (more…)

Double Fine Productions and Electronic Arts announced this week that Tim Schafer’s latest, Brutal Legend, starring Jack Black, is slated for release this “Rocktober.”

To be more exact, the game is slated for an Oct. 13 North America release, and Oct. 16 in Europe. Brutal Legend is a third-person action game, following the story of Eddie Riggs, according to the announcement. Riggs is a roadie with a love for rock and hot rods, who finds himself in a strange world pervaded by heavy metal. He must battle evil forces to save enslaved humans.
