DevilDriver has always been a bit of a guilty pleasure for me, as while it is not the deepest or most technical band, it has progressively gotten better with just about every release and has done a commendable job of making me forget that vocalist Dez Fafara used to sing for Coal Chamber.
DevilDriver’s fifth album, Beast, shows that the band still has plenty of gas in the tank, allowing them to pretty much plow through the majority of the album at a breakneck speed. After 2009’s Pray for Villains, I was a little worried that DevilDriver was starting to slow things down a little too much for its own good. Sure, variety is good, but the band operates best when they keep up the pace, and thankfully Beast kicks mule and then some. (more…)
