The businessman-looking character is just standing around one day when everything from road signs to cars start falling from the sky. Trekkies with fancy phones still excited about J.J. Abrams rebirthing of the Star Trek series this year have something else to look forward to. EA’s Mobile division has released what looks and plays like a Galaga-style tie-in with Star Trek: The Mobile Game.

The player acts as captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise, collecting new weapons, power-ups and defense measures as he shoots down the bad guys and works up the high-score charts. Controls are four arrows  or number keys acting as a directional pad for movement and the OK/Enter button for action.

The main action takes place in campaign mode, while upgrades allow modifications to the Enterprise. Achievements are also supported. The game is available on iPod Touch and the iPhone, featuring the likenesses of characters from the movie. A free online demo is available at www.eamobile.com/startrek Those looking to purchase the game have the option of paying $2.99 per month, or $6.99 for unlimited play.
