While the majority of criticism surrounding 300 has challenged the uber-macho man mentality, cheesy epic dialogue, overblown bloody violence, homoerotic villain and simplicity of the plot –arguing style over substance – those are the exact same elements that make 300 such a success as a comic adaptation. In fact, Zack Snyder’s film re-envisioning of Frank Miller’s graphic novel marks one of the most accurate comic adaptations around, possibly only outdone by another adaptation of Miller’s work, Sin City.
