Game of the Month – February
BioShock 2 (360, PS3, PC)
Publisher: 2K Games – Developer: 2K Marin
BioShock 2 had some high expectations after the original masterpiece. While it doesn’t quite live up to the first, it’s still worth going back to Rapture as Subject Delta, the first Big Daddy bonded to a Little Sister. BioShock 2 offers more weapons, tonics and plasmids to help gamers take on the mother of the Little Sisters. Multiplayer with a BioShock spin is also a welcome edition to keep the replay value high.

Runner-Up
The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom (XBLA)
Publisher: 2K Games – Developer: The Odd Gentlemen
One part platformer, one part steampunk/silent film puzzler for mad scientists in training, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom follows the titular character through time as he tries to get all of the pies in each of the dementedly crafted levels, with graphics and music that complement the game’s unique style.

Game of the Month and its runner up are decided collaboratively by Pads & Panels staff. The choices are limited to the releases of a particular month, determined by U.S. release date. As always, it is based on the games we’ve had an opportunity to play, and not necessarily the entire field. It is designed as recommendation, an “If you’ve only got money for one game this month…” type of selection, rather than a definitive “Best of…” choice.

No Heavy Rain?!?
Ok, I realize that you might not have played it, but if that’s the case, then you need to remedy that situation.
The game has flaws, but it’s certainly trying to do more and be more than every other title out there. Heavy Rain will be on some “Best of 2010″ lists – probably not for game of the year, but certainly for innovation or story.

@redking Thanks for dropping the line about Heavy Rain. Yeah, part of the disclaimer is there are certain things we just haven’t gotten to. It’s not definitive. There’s a good chance it could wind up on our Best of 2010. Just a lot going on, didn’t get a review copy at launch, so it’s a title we just haven’t had a chance to get our hands on yet. Glad to hear you’re enjoying it so much.
