2010 Holiday Gift Guide – For the Racing Game Fan…
By P&P Staff
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
(360/PS3/PC)
The series is Need for Speed. The developer is Criterion Games (Burnout: Paradise). How much more do you need to know to realize this is a wise choice for the holidays? How about a wide array of vehicles, including Lamborghinis on both the speeder and cop fronts, with gameplay designed around fast chases and spectacular crashes. If that doesn’t get you, the addicting Autolog system surely will.

Gran Turismo 5
(PS3)
Sony’s long-awaited and oft-delayed signature racing title has finally arrived. While it may be up for debate whether or not the game has been worth the significant wait, it is hard to see a racing fan not finding something to like here. With an online-integrated career mode, more than 1,000 cars, more than 20 tracks and everything from rally racing to NASCAR to go-karts being covered in the game, this is guaranteed to make the racing fan on your list sit up and take notice. This is simulation racing at its finest and one of the premiere racing titles of this console generation.

Forza 3 Ultimate Collection
(Xbox 360)
And on the Xbox-exclusive side, Turn 10 Studios made quite the impression with its own simulation racing series, Forza 3. Just in time for the holidays, and at a reduced price, comes Forza 3 Ultimate Collection. The new package offers the game plus all of its downloadable content up to its October release date, bringing the vehicle total to more than 500, and the tracks to more than 100. Not a bad deal for any racing fan who has waited this long to pick up the great game.

Nail’d
(360/PS3)
For racers tired of breaking around every turn and running dozens of laps to simulate real-life races, Nail’d offers quite possibly biggest departure from racing realism available this holiday season. Players take to ATVs and and motocross bikes on absolutely ridiculous tracks full of almost vertical inclines, crazy jumps and stunts. And yes, there’s plenty of boost available to help get the job done.
