Contest

Like old Doctor Who? Going to be at C2E2? Great! We’ll still be walking around on Saturday and Sunday, and the BBC was kind to enough to send along three copies of the Doctor Who: The Arc DVD, and three copies of Doctor Who: The Seeds of Doom DVD. So we’re bringing them along, and finding fun ways to give them away out on the floor. Find us Saturday or Sunday, while supplies last, and we may be able to hook you up with one of these sweet prizes. If you don’t get one there, or just don’t want to wait to find out, you can always buy them, as they are both available now.

Last month, EA’s Bright Light studio release Spare Parts, a robot-based platforming game that features both local and online drop-in cooperative play. The game focuses on that cooperative play, with special moves that can only be initiated by two players working together. The game is available on both Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, and Electronic Arts was swell enough to send us four (4) redemption codes for the XBLA version of the title to pass along to our fine readers, so by the end of the week, that’s exactly what we’re going to do. Read on to find out how easy it is to win yourself one of these codes. (more…)

Hydrophobia (noun) – “a morbid dread of water” (also known as rabies) [Source: webster.com] Going into things, we thought this was a great way to start this post, but it turned out to be sort of an odd non sequitur. Sorry about that. But it is connected in that Hydrophobia is also a new game for Xbox Live Arcade from Microsoft and Dark Energy Digital. Microsoft was sweet enough to pass along an extra redemption code for the title to give away to one of our lucky readers, so that’s exactly what we’re going to do. Read on to learn how to enter. So we’ve been talking here at Pads & Panels, and we’ve come to a decision. You guys really need to start reading a bit more. We’re reasonable people, though. We’re not going to send you off to buy summer reading from the Victorian Era that doesn’t even include zombies. No, we accept comics as reading, and we’re prepared to give you some fun books.

From the people over at Pantheon, we’ve got a really nice hardcover copy of Dash Shaw’s latest, BodyWorld, to give away. If you’re not familiar with Dash Shaw, trust us when we say he puts a Chris Ware level of genius and insanity into the production of his books. And for the crafters out there, Penguin brought to our attention and then provided for giveaway two copies of a book by Diana Schoenbrun called Beasties. It’s a cool crafting book that shows readers how to make 22 monsters out of crafting supplies. So we’re going to do our usual contest, which involves commenting on stories throughout the week. At the end of the week, we’re going to randomly pick one first-place winner to receive a copy of each book, and a runner-up will receive only a copy of Beasties. Read more for the official rules. Last week, we gave some love to our PlayStation Network fans. Now, it’s time to do the same for our Xbox Live Arcade users. You may remember Toy Soldiers, the Xbox Live Arcade game that released earlier this year, letting players switch between first- and third-person perspectives in its tower defense-meets-strategy gameplay. Kevin reviewed it, and gave it 4 out of 5 Stars. “The Kaiser Battle” DLC allows players to take control of the French Army, fight a new experimental boss and battle in new multiplayer and Survival Mode maps. Microsoft was kind enough to send four redemption codes for the “Kaiser Battle” DLC to give to our readers, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do, first come, first served. Follow us on twitter @padsandpanels We’ll give an indicator once a day – starting today, followed by Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. The first to reply @padandpanels with their user name from the site, when we post this indicator, will get a code. Good Luck! (more…)

Video games encompass a lot of genres, but oddly somewhat rare among those is the murder mystery genre. Relentless Software looked to rectify this back in March when the company released to U.S. audiences the first of six episodes in a PlayStation Network-exclusive series titled Blue Toad Murder Files. The complete series is available now, and allows one player to go it alone, or four friend to compete in a series of puzzles, while collecting clues to figure out whodunit. Relentless Software was kind enough to send an extra redemption code our way, so by the end of the week, one of our readers can be the one figuring out whodunit. Entering is simple. (more…)

Love Borderlands, but feel it’s just not long enough to satisfy your open-world, first-person shooter role-playing multiplayer urges? What’s wrong with you? That game is so long! Anyways, Gearbox Software and 2K Games apparently agree with you, because they’ve release three add-ons for the game so far. The first two are now available together on a single disc. We received a copy for review, but also made the mistake of buying a second copy. That’s to your benefit, as we’ve decide to give it away. We’re giving away one copy of the Borderlands Double Game Add-On Pack for Xbox 360, which includes the add-on content “The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned” and “Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot.” All it takes for a chance to win is commenting on some stories this week. We’ve had a slew of contests so far this year, but none have really catered to fans of iPhone/iPod Touch gaming. Then Konami came along and was all like – Hey, we’ve got this new rhythm game for the iPhone and iPod Touch called Rhyme Player, in which players tap the lyrics of a song in sync with the music. Would you guys like to give away a few redemption codes? We, of course, said, “Sure, that’s very kind of you Konami.” It might not have gone down exactly like that, but fact is we have three redemption codes for Rhyme Player courtesy of Konami, and we’d like to put them in your virtual hands by tomorrow. So read below for more details. (more…)

The Fat Princess experience hit PlayStation Portable this week in the form of Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake. The game maintains its comical concept of two hordes competing in an all-out battle, in which getting princesses fat with cake so they’re harder to steal from the dungeon by the opposing team is the main goal. The game thrives on team cooperation, with five classes working together to win a match. It’s all there in Fistful of Cake, only this time it’s portable. Sony Computer Entertainment was nice enough to send an extra redemption code our way to give to one of our lucky readers by the end of the week. All you need to do is comment on some stories. Hopefully some of you remember our “Fall Cleaning Grab Bag” back in October. Well, we’ve accumulated another closet-ful of prizes, so we thought it was time for a “Spring Cleaning Grab Bag.” We’ll be giving away a prize a day to randomly selected readers who comment on the daily posts. That means there will be a ton of chances to win. We also may give away some extra prizes via email, through our Facebook fan page, or our twitter feed (@padsandpanels), so stay alert. We’ve got an incredibly kickass arsenal of prizes this time around  (read below).

Everybody (meeting our usual guidelines) is eligible for this contest, but you can only win once in this series of giveaways. As we pick winners by various methods, we will allow those winners to each pick one (1) item from what is left of the following list of items for a prize. Remember, though, we will be picking winners all week, so if we email you the list, don’t hear back, and a later winner has already picked your hopeful prize, you’ll wind up stuck with what’s left. Is that clear? (more…)
